What's in store for this edition:

Shine like a star on your next media interview.
Your Interview Prep Kit
Have you ever been interviewed for television before? It can be nerve-racking, however, the better prepared you are the smoother and less stressful it will be. Let’s learn how to nail that interview.
First and foremost is to be prepared! Here’s how.
Have all the facts and figures that were submitted in the pitch.
Know why the interview is taking place, and what the objective is.
Know the key messaging points.
What are the top 3 difficult questions that might be asked? How you will answer them?
If it’s a major interview and you’re nervous, you can hire a coach to help guide you in crafting specific answers and provide interview simulation.
After the interview, there may be follow-up questions or different assets needed, provide these immediately. Reporters are on tight timelines.
Preparing yourself also means knowing about the reporter and the outlet.
Gather media outlet information.
Study the background of the reporter.
Watch or read a few of their most recent stories.
Know the outlet’s audience, and speak with their viewpoint in mind.
“Never argue with someone who buys ink by the barrel”
Remember:
If a reporter asks questions, they are entitled to an answer.
Don’t use jargon, you’ll come off looking arrogant.
Don’t say “no comment.” Try instead:
I don’t know, but I’ll get you an answer ASAP.
I don’t want to speculate.
That is confidential information.
That is non-public information.Do you have your messaging points memorized? Those are brief messages that should be the basis of communications. It’s something that sounds like a headline.
Handle criticism gracefully. If you are given feedback, criticism, or push-back from a reporter, be professional and take the advice. Learn and improve.
Do this now: Look at an interview, and notice the headline. More than likely the client said something that was in the messaging that stood out to the reporter and they went with that clip.
Can you find what you think their main messaging point was?
Now what will yours be?
Next time: Interviews are tricky, but so is public speaking. Learn how to hone your craft.
Term to Learn
Bridging is where you take the reporter’s questions and smoothly connect them to your key messages or points about your organization. It is important that you acknowledge the reporter’s question before transitioning or bridging back to your messages.
Bridging back to your key messages (e.g. ”yes, you are right to bring this up, as it closely relates to….”) Watch below, starting about 1 minute in to see how Anne Hathaway used this technique.
FAQ
Q: Can I wear comfortable clothes for my TV interview?
A: Depends on your definition of comfortable. If your clothes are loose, billowy, or wrinkled clothes – they’ll make you look frumpy. Stick with nicely fitted clothes that are well-pressed and wrinkle-free and solid colors that work with your skin.

NEWSWORTHY:
Chick-Fil-A Streaming Service 📺🐔
Multiple Articles saying Chick-Fil-A are entering the streaming space, however not a cluck/peep from Chick-fil-a
In preparing this week’s newsletter I found it interesting that Chick-Fil-A hasn’t said anything in response to the news. There could be multiple reasons.
Why no response:
It could be they have nothing to say on the matter.
Perhaps they weren’t given enough time to comment before the publishing of the article.
Perhaps it is confidential and they can’t say anything at this time.
✍️ Key PR Takeaway: If you requested a news interview, you can’t say no comment. However, if the news is wanting a comment from you that you’re not free to talk about you don’t have to say anything.
Learn from others.
